Frequently Asked Questions

We have listed a few of the most commonly asked questions below. If there is anything else you are unsure of please get in touch and we'll have a chat.

Is it only for men?

Not at all. Although our campaign is about men and mental health and we want to engage as many men as possible, the 12th Man Campaign and the MHFA Training we offer is open to everyone.

For example, many female Barbers, Tattoo Artists and Pub staff have taken our courses and are now active in the campaign. We also know that some men may feel more comfortable talking to women in certain settings so we recognise the role women can play in the 12th Man Campaign.

If you don't identify as male or female you are also most welcome to join us.

Do you offer mental health support?

The 12th Man is a Campaign not a support service. We aim to make men better at talking about mental health on a day-to-day basis - while talking to colleagues at work or with friends or family in their free time.

There are numerous national and local services that already provide support, and the 12th Man aims to signpost people to these services when they need help. We have listed many of these services on our Support page, and plan to further develop this area of the website in the near future.

Does the Training cost anything?

If you live in one of our funded areas of Norfolk, Suffolk and Cheshire East, and you affiliate to one of our key business or interest groups, then we can provide you the training at no cost. This is because local authorities and charitable foundations in these areas recognise the importance of your roles within the community and have funded the training for you.

If you live outside of one of these areas we can provide training for you at a cost. We can offer various options depending on how many people want to train and what you would like to do with us afterwards. If you are outside our funded areas but want to get involved, please Contact Us.

Can I set up a 12th Man Cycling Club Group?

Yes you can. We have had success with the group in Norfolk and are keen to explore starting other groups across the country.

If you would be interested in piloting a new group in your area please Contact Us, we would love to hear from you.

What do you expect from us after the Training?

We have no expectations but there are various ways that you can get involved.

We will contact you a few weeks after the training to get some feedback. We can provide materials for your shop or club and you are welcome to join our social media and WhatsApp groups with others from your affiliation. If you want to go further you can act as a hub for the campaign and become active in recruiting new businesses or interest groups from your area, even help us raise funds.

All we ask as a minimum is that after your training you follow our social media channels and help us spread the word.

It's up to you how much you want to do, we just hope you feel inspired to #BeThe12thMan
