Be a 12th Man Barber
Barbers are in an unrivalled position in mens culture. Most men visit a barber regularly and often develop strong friendships where they feel comfortable to talk openly about their lives. The barbershop is a place where men go to receive regular care and attention, and to feel renewed and refreshed. The barbers chair is a unique experience for men where reflection and conversation meet.
The 12th Man Barbershop is an award-winning project that began in 2017. We provide Mental Health First Aid training to Barbers in their shops after hours, allowing them to develop their interpersonal skills and explore their key role within communities.
12th Man Barbers and Barbershops can use the training every day in their work. They can use it in interactions with clients, and to create a positive culture at work around mental health. Once trained 12th Man Barbers and Barbershops can also get involved in events and activities to raise awareness of men's mental health, and stock merchandise to help raise funds for the campaign and raise awareness to encourage more dialogue. Are you a barber?
