ITV Anglia features 12th Man Barbershop
Menkind: ITV News Anglia’s series looking at men’s health
Increasingly men’s health is becoming a major source of concern and it affects entire families. From the alarming number of male suicides and issues with mental health to problems with drink, drugs and general physical well-being.
Now ITV News Anglia is getting behind a campaign designed to tackle some of these issues head on, with advice and support through the ‘Menkind’ campaign.
Once a month ITV’s regional flagship news programme will take a topic, discuss it with experts and point our audience in the direction of help and advice. In addition we will back that up with a longer discussion on our Facebook page and invite anyone to share their experiences with us during the project, running to July 2019.
Joining us on the journey will be Darren Eadie. Known to football fans as a pacey midfielder, what many might not know is that he has faced his own mental and physical battles. As well as sharing these, Darren will also undertake tests and meet some of those experiencing the issues and the experts on hand to help.
And that’s where you come in. One of the biggest problems is that compared to women, men generally don’t talk about their problems or ask for help. Take just one startling statistic - suicide is the biggest killer in men under the age of 50 with three out of every four suicides being male.
The ‘Menkind’ campaign hopes that by seeing men talk about their issues that others will be encouraged to join in. Either by contacting groups or agencies via our website, sharing other helpful links online or getting in touch during our Facebook chats straight after our monthly report on a different issue on ITV News Anglia.
